As you’d expect, Fightstar‘s intimate Newcastle show has long been sold out, with many people having queued ridiculously early for the Busted-esque nostalgia of their frontman. Nonetheless, it’s what sells the tickets.
Live Review: Fightstar – O2 Academy 2, Newcastle, April 29th 2009
April 30, 2009Review: Duck Duck Goose – Noise, Noise, and More Noise (EP)
April 27, 2009
In a strange hybrid of all things experimental, (and possibly a more experimental name to boot) US quintet Duck Duck Goose manage to contain all the chaos their music screams, and fit it into six tracks.
Review: Searching For Skylines – Mes Amis (EP)
April 27, 2009
The newest offering from New York pop-rockers Searching For Skylines offers a very easy listening record.
Review: With The Punches – Keep It Going (EP)
April 27, 2009
The debut offering from New York-quintet With The Punches, Keep It Going, give a nod to the more core-ish side of pop-punk, a la Four Year Strong, with seven tracks of squeaky clean charm.
Live Review: Give It A Name Incoming – Brixton Academy, London, April 17th 2009
April 25, 2009
As In This Moment’s Maria Brink came out alongside her all-male band mates, the crowd was uncertain about this pint sized woman in a bright yellow Lolita-styled dress. When she belted out a loud greeting to the audience, a confirmed roar gave the okay to start the festival. I was highly unfamiliar with In This Moment’s songs, however, Forever was a memorable song, even more memorable was the scream that lasted over 20 seconds in their last song Beautiful Tragedy.
Live Review: Basement Jaxx – O2 Academy, Newcastle, April 20th 2009
April 24, 2009
The fact that Basement Jaxx are headlining multiple festivals around the country doesn’t really seem possible, given that they’ve failed to sell out Newcastle’s Academy tonight. Nonetheless, the early evening brings an impressive clan of quite the dressed-up smarties. Unlike most Academy gigs, the majority are more eager to get to the bar than the barrier, which stays untouched for a good 15-minutes after doors open.
Interview: Underoath
April 24, 2009
With their recent visit to the U.K. for Give It A Name Incoming, the newest member of our team, Paula, was given the chance to ask Aaron Gillespie of Underoath a few quick questions.
Could you say you name and your role in the band?
Aaron R. Gillespie, drums and vocals.
You first played Give It A Name in the UK back in 2006, the fans are absolutely ecstatic to have you back on the bill! What tracks can we expect to hear this time round?
Hey, let’s not give it all away! [laughs] We are very excited to be in it and a part of it again, but as for the set list, we have been changing it a lot so I don’t know – you’ll have to come see!
Do you prefer playing the newer tracks off of the new record or tracks from the golden oldies?
I like both, I really like lots of different songs we play. I like certain moments in songs – I have no real faves though live.
Interview: My Passion
April 20, 2009
A tiny pub front room and a load of impatient fans, waiting just feet away, gave us an intimate and somewhat unsettling place to catch-up with My Passion, talking to the boys on what’s new; here’s what they had to say…
Faye: Can you say your name and what you do in the band?
Laurence René: I’m Laurence René, I do vocals and a bit of guitar.
John Be: I’m John Be, I play guitar.
Simon Rowlands: I’m Simon, I play bass.
Laurence: And Jonathan is having a cigarette…
All: [laugh]
Laurence: He does drums, synths, vocals and many other crazy little things.
Faye: Can you tell us a bit of history about My Passion?
Laurence: It was three years ago when it began, we’d been friends for years, so we sort of grew up together and then we decided to form a band that was going to wake everyone up, like offer an alternative to everything else that was going on. You’ve got pop-punk bands, you’ve got metal bands, but you haven’t got many crazy, electro-punk-rock-metal-pop bands going on, so yeah, we’re just trying to offer something different to everyone.
Live Review: My Passion – The Cooperage, Newcastle – April 15th 2009
April 20, 2009
A foggy Wednesday afternoon on the Tyne brings My Passion to Newcastle, with fans already queueing outside the ancient little Cooperage a fair few hours before doors are due to open, braving the strange weather.
Interview: In This Moment
April 19, 2009
In the last of our series of Give It A Name Introduces interviews, we bring you our encounter with one of rock’s most photographed women and In This Moment vocalist, Maria Brink, from the Newcastle leg of the tour.
Faye: Can you say your name and what you do in the band?
Maria Brink: I’m Maria Brink, and I’m the singer.
F: So, how did In This Moment get started?
M: We started in L.A., most of us are pretty much bi-coastal throughout the United States, and we all moved to L.A. eventually, for our music and all just kind of found each other. Then we just started touring by ourselves throughout the States, like in a van, before we got signed. We did a bunch of MySpace stuff, which I think helped us a little bit, as far as people knowing who we were, and, yeah, that’s how it all started out.
