Hitting Newcastle for the third consecutive week is the Three Way Dance tour, showcasing some of the UK’s best ska/punk bands, and this week’s line-up comes from The JB Conspiracy, Dirty Revolution and Anti-Vigilante.
Newcomers Anti-Vigilante start the night off with their dichotomy of ska and hardcore – one minute they’re playing ska tunes; the next, they’re pummelling out hardcore, and it somehow works. In the midst of their first tour, frontman Josh oozes confidence as he stomps across the floor, belting out his brash vocals; a promising act.
The female-fronted reggae ska punk mash Dirty Revolution are up next, as they play their set of ultra catchy and socio-political songs such as Police and the up-tempo I Love Reggae. Reminiscent of The Skints, we see a multi-talented front woman not only nail vocals, but also dabble in playing various instruments – namely, the guitar and melodica. There’s quite a bit of hype regarding this Cardiff-based four piece and tonight they prove exactly why.
This week’s headliners The JB Conspiracy kick the night off with Pipe Down as the seven-piece cram onto the stage of Trillians. With a strict curfew to abide by, usual chit-chat is cut to a minimum, diving full force into their set of non-stop ska madness.
With the rest of tonight’s acts gartering nothing more than a polite applause, it’s clear that a majority of tonight’s audience are very familiar with this Guilford act, as they sing and skank their hearts out to tunes such as, Up In Smoke and Be Aware.
Having been around for a decade, with a plethora of big-name tours under their belt – such as Capdown, Big D and the Kids Table, and The Slackers, to name a few – it shows by their incredibly tight and high-energy performance; almost exhausting to watch and nothing short of brilliant, as they show – along with the rest of tonight’s acts – why this is the most exciting and underrated scene in the UK right now.
