Interview: Jeffree Star

April 29, 2010

Halfway through a co-headliner tour with BrokeNCYDE, George takes a step into the unknown and catches up with Jeffree Star. He talks to the self-confessed ‘Queen of the Internet’ about Blood On The Dance Floor, his more mature direction, assaulting, and of course… the Internet. Hold your breath…

George: How’s the tour been so far?
Jeffree: It’s actually been really good, a little cold for me since I’m from California, but every show’s been sold out and really, really amazing.

George: These are considerably bigger venues than your last UK tour, and a lot of them have sold out, are you stoked about that?
Jeffree: Yeah, I’m really excited! It’s cool that every time I come here, like, things seem to be getting bigger, and I love it!

George: We heard a kid threw something at you in Wolverhampton, and you gave chase…

Jeffree: Oh, yeah! [laughs]
George: Good on you! What do you say to people who feel the need to do that?
Jeffree: Well it’s sad that we had a sold out show, and there’s always like, one person that tries to ruin the fun, y’know? I feel like If you don’t stick up for yourself, then everyone’s gonna keep walking on you, so I did run out of the venue and me and my merch guy assaulted him. [laughs] So I mean, it was worth it and it was really funny, and it shows my fans like, don’t let them fuck with you.

Interview: BrokeNCYDE

April 29, 2010

Back over in the UK, Faye caught up once again with Mikl from the infamous BrokeNCYDE, ahead of their sold out Newcastle show with Jeffree Star. They got talking about all their recent controversies, why the BrokeNCYDE hate train seems to have died down, Phat J becoming a father, and a whole lot more!

Faye: The last time you were over was in June, what have you been up to since then?
Mikl: After that, we played Warped Tour, so much stuff has happened and we just got back from Brazil, then we came here.

Faye: How was Warped Tour in the end? Because there was a lot of controversy around you playing, with bands speaking out against you.
Mikl: Nobody bothered us and we had a really good turn out with our fans, they just kicked ass as usual.

Faye: I saw in another interview that Antz wasn’t allowed in Canada on Warped Tour, what was the deal with that?
Mikl: It was because of his past, so they didn’t want to let him in, they’re really strict over there. Hopefully, next time he’ll be able to go in, we’re trying to fix it right now, so we’ll see.

Faye: This time round in the UK, you’re playing and selling out bigger venues, how does that feel?
Mikl: It’s a dream, every day is amazing and last time, I think we did pretty well, but to come back and to be able to sell out a lot of these shows is just amazing. It just shows that we have a lot of love out there, and no matter about the hate, we have all our fans who show it doesn’t matter. If you have a dream, go for it.

April 28, 2010

Kids have been here since the early hours for this. Whether they’re decked out in their high tops, or fully clad like their heroes (one boy/girl in particular dressing his/herself up as Jeffree Star, which is shocking to say the very least) there’s something for everyone here today. Apparently, BrokeNCYDE will never die. Let’s wait and see…

April 19, 2010

While it’s questionable booking that Celtic punk legends Dropkick Murphys are playing downstairs in the main Academy tonight, it still doesn’t stop The King Blues from practically selling out their first ever Newcastle headline show.

Review: This Is Divine – These Human Ruins

April 15, 2010

En route to an attempt to play Download festival, North-East quintet This Is Divine have been hard at work, the fruits of their labour shown in the form of new extended play These Human Ruins – eight tracks of what they like to call “post-metalcore” (think an angrier, more emotional Confide or Oh, Sleeper, with lashings of technicality to boot).

Interview: Flyleaf

April 6, 2010

Halfway into their jolly jaunt around the UK, rockers Flyleaf end up being cornered by George for an interview. He talks to singer Lacey Mosley and guitarist Jared Hartmann about their new album and why it took so long in the making, attempting to get Benjamin Burnley to use a boat, and a cheeky hint at a future festival appearance! (Oh, and check out Lacey’s answer about crossover genres, it’s a doozy!)

George: How are you today?
Lacey: We’re good! I got to sleep last night, first time!
Jared: I slept from like 2 til 2.
Lacey: [laughs]

George: How’s the tour been so far? A few of the dates have sold out!
Lacey: Yeah, it’s been really cool. The crowds have been really great. It’s been neat to get to walk around a little, we haven’t done as much as we’d like, but it’s been good!

George: How are you finding The Crave?
Lacey: I think they’re really talented guys, we’ve only done a couple of shows with them so far.
Jared: Yeah, they’re cool, they’re nice!

George: You haven’t done a proper tour of the UK since the dates with Korn in early 2008, how come it’s taken so long for you to get back over?
Lacey: Yeah, it’s just that we’ve been recording our record for a long time, like two years really, that’s how long it took before it actually came alive.

George: What have you been up to lately? If I’m correct you toured with Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace?

Lacey: Yeah!
George: Breaking Benjamin are awesome!
Lacey: You’ll have to tell them that, maybe they’ll come over here. [laughs] He (Benjamin Burnley, Breaking Benjamin vocalist) should just get on a boat! (Ben has a chronic fear of flight) I talked to him, I said why don’t you just get on a boat? He said it’ll take a long time. [laughs]
Jared: I talk to him alot, he said he’d come, but it’s the label that always messes it up, they won’t pay for him.
Lacey: It was really cool, that tour was really cool. We’ve played with Breaking Ben and Three Days Grace before, those guys are really neat, and we got to play in front of a lot of new people too which is really strange because we’ve toured the States so many times, it’s ridiculous. These were really small towns, I don’t know why they were booking them, but they were places we’ve never been to, and we’d never heard of these towns and they were always full.
