Durham Live Lounge has only been made into a swanky looking music venue in the past couple of months, and it’s already attracting some pretty big names down its way. Maybe it’ll start to split the attention from the Academy over in the Tyne, who knows? Tonight, (for free to the first 25 people, may I add) the live show comes from the recently reformed Laconia, and they’ve got a support with them who’ve been a bit quiet as of late…

Live Review: The Casino Brawl – Independent, Sunderland, August 3rd 2009

casino1The Casino Brawl make the stop home for a show in Sunderland tonight during their jaunt around the UK. Considering the usual crowds turning out for their shows, especially just 30-minutes away in Newcastle, it’s somewhat disheartening at the turnout tonight, around 40 or 50 people.

Live Review: Flood of Red – O2 Academy 2, Newcastle, July 21st 2009

forAs like last year’s gig of the same venue, headliner, support act, and people with plugs bigger than their faces, Glaswegians Flood Of Red have once again basically sold out the Academy 2. The place is packed tonight and full of anticipation for what is for many people, a triple headliner, with North East The Casino Brawl, and Essex post-hardcore outfit Shadows Chasing Ghosts generating a turn out just as big as the true headline act tonight.

Feature: The State Of The North East ‘Scene’

Looking at the crop of new British talent in what is, essentially, rock bands, across the land, there’s some real gems hidden away in there; where were You Me At Six all but three years ago? Playing to a handful of people in local bars night after night in their native Surrey.

The same goes for the Welsh vallies, which have spawned the likes of Attack! Attack!, Kids In Glass Houses, Save Your Breath, and such, in recent years. Every area in the UK seems to have a real promise coming from them, in the form of one band or another. Brighton these days, is somewhat of a haven for rock, punk and metal bands, with acts like The Ghost Of A Thousand, Johnny Truant, and The Crave among others to come from the seaside town.

But getting really local, there is one place that in my honest opinion, really lacks in new talent in rock, pop punk, metal, punk, you guessed it, the North East.
